My Quarantine Survival Kit

A WARM VIRTUAL HUG TO ALL YOU PEOPLE IN QUARANTINE!

(VIRTUAL BECAUSE OF SOCIAL DISTANCING, OF COURSE!)

As you know, the whole world is pretty much in some form of lockdown or another (or at least practicing social distancing) and you simply can’t visit exciting places or even venture far beyond your front door like you used to.

In this time of global crisis, I thought of taking a shift from my logo design challenge blogs and share how I survived under house arrest/quarantine.

I want all of you to come out of this tough setback stronger and being able to yell to the world "I survived!".

I thought of utilizing this time with making pitches for new design projects! I created a list as to how I can improve my client experience and make them believe they made the right choice!

LITTLE BLACK BOOK OF QUARANTINE ESCAPE

I hope this little list is helpful for you to understand how a designer can utilize their time indoors and benefit clients:

1. USE UNIQUE FONTS

I took this time to analyze the fonts I have used in the past. Are they creative enough? Did I modify them to suit the design? I realized I needed to experiment with fonts a bit more so I looked up all the types of fonts that existed, when I say ALL, I really mean ALL. Believe me, this analysis helped me in discovering so many new fonts and typefaces that I could add to my font library for use in future design projects!

2. MOCK UP COLLECTION

How do you make a client have confidence in your design? The answer is MOCK UPS! No matter how good the design is, the client would like to see it in a real time environment, this is where we need mock ups. For a long time I believed in creating my own mock ups, but with the current scenario, I decided to create a library of mock ups too. I feel after this virus dies down, business will pick up as usual and I am prepared with enough resources for the new projects that I might get during this time.

3. EVERYONE LOVES RESPONSIVE

Due to the corona virus outbreak companies are aiming to start online platforms to continue business during this tough time! This is a big emerging market for the development of websites. People also prefer to view websites on their mobile phone, so there is an increase in responsive websites. I always believe innovation begins at home. So, I worked on making my own website responsive for all platforms. I had to also make sure the website is fast enough in downloading on a mobile. This made a big difference as 30% of my audience views my website on their phones.

4. BADASS PRESENTATIONS

What is sure to win you a new client? A badass presentation! Animated mock ups, meaningful designed backgrounds and sassy fonts are sure to make your prospect trust you to be the best for their project. A lot of times people don't understand the importance of a rocking presentation, but if you want to create a lasting first impression on your client, presentations are the way to go!

5. SUPER COOL PATTERNS AND TEXTURES

In this gloomy environment, super cool patterns and textures are sure to pop and add flavor to your quarantined life.

I collected and curated a full list of geometric patterns and use it to decorate my desktop screen and folders. The next day when I switched on my laptop, I was so happy seeing the bright colors and textures on my screen! I decided in my client presentations I would surely make use of these to add an extra spoonful of oomph to my designs!

6. KEEP THE MOOD UP!

Lastly, believe that things will be fine. Keep yourself in high spirits and experiment doing things you haven't at home! Don't be scared, in times like these, the opportunities are as big as the challenges!
